Background

Michael Powell is a welsh-based artist who paints watercolour, pen and ink depictions of cultured buildings and scenes, such as Venice Palazzo, Tuscan Gardens, Spanish Hill Town, Houses of Provence.  These paintings have become well-known world-wide and are sought-after collectables.

These artworks translate brilliantly into cross stitch designs, where the watercolour background is stitched in cross stitch and half stitch and the pen and ink elements are translated using back stitch.  A number of the original paintings are wide landscapes and these are translated into cross stitch triptych where three stand-alone designs can be stitched and displayed alongside one another to complete the scene.
