Information for Lavender & Lace charts
Many of the older charts refer to threads that are no longer available
(e.g. DMC 284Z). Lavender & Lace also recommend alternatives for threads or
braids that are difficult to get hold of.
DMC 284Z
This metallic thread from DMC comes on a large spool. The end paper may say Fil
or clair rather than 284Z. When many of the older Lavender & Lace
designs were created, this was the most widely available gold metallic thread.
However, there are now many more metallic choices. The newer designs tend to
use Rainbow Gallery Petite Treasure
Braids. These are much easier to use. The 284Z probably matches PB03 most
closely although you may want to use PB01 or one of the other colours instead.
Use two strands over two threads on 28 count or 32 count fabric or over one
fabric square on 14 count or 16 count Aida.
You might also consider DMC's stranded metallic threads which are now called
"Light Effects"
Needlepaints Threads
"Needlepaints" specialty thread is 100% Egyptian cotton, manufactured in Japan
and processed by Kreinik to feel almost like silk. They are manufactured in
10-metre skeins. These colours are not found in the DMC range of threads.
Marilyn Leavitt-Imblum has sought to use these colours for many years and has
created them specially to use in her designs. She does not intend to compete
with the thread manufacturers and will always use DMC as her main source for
her colour palette.
